澳门彩开奖历史记录 scholarship up for grabs at free event for veterans

Anniston, Ala. — Veterans and their families are invited to an event that will result in one lucky attendee receiving a $2,000 scholarship to 澳门彩开奖历史记录. The event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 20 in the Cheaha Center Lecture Hall on 澳门彩开奖历史记录’s Ayers Campus.

“We are so excited to offer a college, career and apprenticeship workshop that will provided resources needed to enroll in college or to embark on a new career,” said Pam Johnson, dean of Institutional Effectiveness, Grants and Special Programs at 澳门彩开奖历史记录.

The workshop is free and open to area active-duty military, guardsmen, reservists, retirees, veterans and their families. It’s sponsored by the Alabama Association of Resource Conservation and Development Councils in partnership with the Alabama Community College System and the Alabama Advanced Manufacturing Apprenticeship Program.

“We appreciate the support from ACCS and the RC&D councils,” Johnson said. “These workshops are educating those who serve or have served our country about what 澳门彩开奖历史记录 has to offer them and their families.”

The workshop will begin at 10 a.m. with a resource fair that will include the Calhoun County Veterans Service Office, Veterans Upward Bound and the Educational Opportunity Center.

From 11 a.m. to noon, 澳门彩开奖历史记录 staff will provide information in 10-minute increments or less on the following topics:

  • How to enroll at 澳门彩开奖历史记录
  • Getting college credit for past military experience
  • Campus life
  • Applying for VA education benefits
  • Financial Aid, scholarships and GI Bill
  • Veteran services
  • Introduction to career programs and majors
  • College Career Services
  • Apprenticeships and work-based learning opportunities
  • Tutoring and student success support

A free lunch will be served to all registered attendees at noon. During the “working lunch,” Dr. Kathy Murphy, president of 澳门彩开奖历史记录, will recognize legislators in attendance. The winner of the scholarship will also be announced (must be present to win). A Veterans in Industry Panel will provide insight and information following the announcement.

From 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., Keri Wood, the workforce development learning specialist, will provide an optional Veteran Career Exploration and Resume Workshop. A campus tour will also be offered during this time.
